Ground transport options from Winnipeg
Public transportation
Winnipeg Transit operates public bus service from the stop at the Arrivals Level outside Door 3. Route 15 (Sargent/Mountain) and Route 20 (Watt/Academy) connect YWG to downtown Winnipeg and major residential districts, with journey times of 20–30 min to downtown and a fare of CAD 3.15 cash (exact change required) or via Peggo reloadable card. Service runs roughly 05:00 to midnight. This is the most economical option, though service is less frequent on weekends and evenings.
Taxis & rideshare
Taxis are available 24/7 on the Arrivals Level outside Door 3. Unicity Taxi is the primary licensed provider, operating metered fares with typical trips running CAD 18–25 to downtown Winnipeg (15–20 min), CAD 25–40 to southern residential districts and the University of Manitoba, CAD 40–60 to Selkirk and Steinbach, and CAD 80–120 to points further afield. Uber and Lyft are both authorized and operate from a designated area on the Arrivals curb, typically offering 15–25% savings over metered taxis.
Rental cars
Rental car counters and parking are located on the main level of the airport parkade directly across the roadway from the terminal, accessible via a short covered walk. On-site companies include Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National/Alamo. Pre-booking is recommended given limited walk-up availability, particularly during summer tourism peak and the fall hunting season. A valid driver license and credit card are required; most foreign licenses are accepted without International Driving Permit. Winter-equipped vehicles (snow tires, block heaters, brushes) are standard from October through April. The Perimeter Highway (Route 100/101) provides rapid onward access to all Manitoba highways radiating from the provincial capital.
