Teniente Amín Ayub González International Airport (ENO) serves Encarnación, the capital of Itapúa Department in southern Paraguay, from a site near Capitán Miranda on the Paraná River opposite Argentine Posadas. It ranks as one of Paraguay's handful of international airports and anchors the aviation network of the country's southern agricultural belt, complementing Asunción (ASU) and Ciudad del Este (AGT). The airport is named for Paraguayan aviation pioneer Tte. Amín Ayub González and was upgraded during the 2010s with a new terminal and extended asphalt runway able to accept narrow-body jet operations. Scheduled service has been intermittent, with domestic links to Asunción and occasional charter and seasonal international flights to Argentine cities; the field also hosts general aviation, agricultural aerial work for the surrounding soybean and yerba mate plantations, and state and emergency operations tied to the Yacyretá hydroelectric complex downstream. Encarnación's broader economy – a blend of Jesuit-ruin heritage tourism (Trinidad and Jesús), cross-border shopping with Posadas, and one of Paraguay's biggest carnivals – positions ENO as a strategic tourism gateway in Paraguay's long-term aviation plans. On regional airport league tables it is classified as a large airport by runway profile and international designation rather than by passenger volume, and its upgrades reflect Paraguay's policy of maintaining multiple jet-capable international fields to decentralise traffic from the capital.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Encarnación

Public transportation

Local and intercity bus services linking Encarnación with Capitán Miranda and the Jesuit ruins pass along the main highway near the airport access road, requiring a short transfer to the terminal. Fares are paid in guaraníes on board, and services run frequently during daytime hours though schedules thin out in the evening.

Taxis & rideshare

Licensed taxis from Encarnación's municipal fleet serve scheduled flights, offering negotiated-price service to central Encarnación, the Costanera riverfront, Cambyretá and across the San Roque González de Santa Cruz international bridge to Posadas, Argentina. Cross-border fares are typically quoted in guaraníes or Argentine pesos and priced per vehicle.

Rental cars

Rental options at ENO are modest, with Paraguayan operators and international affiliates offering sedans and compact SUVs on request. Bookings are commonly arranged in advance through Encarnación city offices; drivers planning cross-border travel into Argentina must obtain explicit authorisation and vehicle documents from the rental company before leaving the lot.
