Getting to the airport
Ground transport options from Algiers
Public transportation
A dedicated SNTF commuter rail line runs directly between the airport (Aéroport station) and the Algiers city center at Agha station, with connections at Agha to the Algiers Metro and the wider suburban rail network. Trains operate roughly every 30–60 min from early morning until late evening at very low fares. Public buses operated by ETUSA (lines including 100, 32) connect ALG to Place des Martyrs, 1er Mai, and other central points. An Alger–Aéroport night bus covers late arrivals. Service is inexpensive but often crowded and may be difficult with large luggage.
Taxis & rideshare
Official airport taxis queue outside the international and domestic arrivals halls 24/7. Fares are nominally metered, but in practice passengers should confirm the fare or agree on a flat rate before departure, especially at night and on weekends. Typical fares: DZD 2,500–3,500 to central Algiers (25–40 min), DZD 1,500–2,200 to the nearer eastern suburbs, DZD 4,000–6,000 to Sidi Abdellah and the western districts. Yassir — the dominant Algerian ride-hailing app — operates at the airport with competitive pricing, designated pickup zones, and card or cash payment.
Rental cars
Rental-car desks in the Terminal 1 arrivals hall include Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Europcar, and a significant number of Algerian operators (Alger Rent Car, Location Auto). An International Driving Permit is commonly requested alongside a home-country license, and French-language facility among agents is standard while English support is limited. Driving in central Algiers is challenging due to dense traffic, constrained parking, and a preference for improvised lane discipline, and most business visitors use chauffeured services rather than self-drive for intra-city movement.
