Casa de Campo International Airport (LRM), officially La Romana International Airport, is a purpose-built resort gateway on the south-eastern coast of the Dominican Republic. Located 8 km (5 mi) east of La Romana and directly serving the vast Casa de Campo resort, it sits at 213 ft (65 m) elevation overlooking the Caribbean Sea. A single 9,678-ft (2,950-m) concrete runway 11/29 accepts widebody aircraft up to the Boeing 787 and Airbus A330, and its lightly used ramp routinely parks business jets alongside Caribbean-bound charter widebodies. LRM is operated by the Central Romana Corporation, owner of the adjacent Casa de Campo resort (home to the Pete Dye-designed 'Teeth of the Dog' golf course ranked among the world's top courses) and is a rare case of a fully private international airport in the Americas. It handles 50 routes to 41 destinations on 19 airlines (2026), a high destination count relative to size driven by seasonal charter networks from Canada (Air Canada, Air Transat, WestJet, Sunwing), the United States (American, JetBlue, Delta), Europe (TUI, Condor, Neos, SmartLynx) and Latin America. The airport is a key entry point to Altos de Chavón, Bayahibe diving and Saona Island excursions. An open-air, coral-stone terminal characterises the arrival experience and has been used as the template for other Caribbean resort airports. Because LRM serves largely pre-booked package travellers, more than 80% of passengers transfer directly to resort shuttles; scheduled commercial intensity peaks sharply in the December-April high season. The airport handled around 1.2 million passengers pre-pandemic and has recovered quickly on the back of Canadian and Italian leisure demand. LRM's concrete runway is one of the few in the Caribbean built to withstand routine widebody charter operations; its fuel farm and ground-handling facilities are operated by Central Romana alongside the neighbouring sugar estate, an integrated resort-industrial model virtually unique in the region. The airport is also a popular base for private-jet arrivals into Casa de Campo's marina and golf circuit.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from La Romana

Public transportation

There is no scheduled public bus service calling at the terminal. 'Guaguas' - shared minivans running the Dominican national bus network - do not enter the airport; travellers can pick them up from the Metro or Expreso Bavaro station in La Romana town after a short taxi transfer.

Taxis & rideshare

Authorised tourist taxis queue at the rank outside arrivals operating on government-published fixed zonal rates; Casa de Campo resort (8 minutes) typically costs 25-35 USD and Bayahibe roughly 45-60 USD. Most package travellers use pre-booked shuttle services arranged via their tour operator, which are more economical than on-the-spot taxi hire.

Rental cars

Avis, Hertz and Europcar operate desks inside the arrivals pavilion. A rental is useful for exploring Bayahibe, Higüey and the Punta Cana corridor. Dominican highways accept toll cards or cash pesos, and a home driver's licence is accepted for tourist stays. Reserve ahead during winter peak as resort demand routinely exceeds the small airport fleet.
