M'Vengue El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba International Airport (MVB) serves Franceville, capital of Gabon's Haut-Ogooué Province and historical political stronghold of the Bongo family. Perched at 1,450 ft (442 m) on a plateau near the Batéké savannah, it is one of three international airports in Gabon and a strategic aviation node in the country's southeast, a region defined by uranium and manganese mining at Moanda and by the CIRMF biomedical research centre. The airport's asphalt runway is sized for narrow-body jet operations and supports daily Afrijet and occasional ASKY flights to Libreville (LBV) together with charter and mining-sector flights.
