Maya-Maya International Airport

Maya-Maya International serves Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of the Congo, and sits barely 5 km north of the city centre and roughly 4 km across the Congo River from Kinshasa's N'djili (FIH) — making BZV and FIH the closest pair of capital-city international airports in the world, about 12 km apart in a straight line. The 3,300 m (10,827 ft) asphalt runway at 320 m (1,048 ft) elevation comfortably accommodates widebody operations, which is the primary infrastructure qualification for BZV's place among the 534 largest. About 13 airlines operate 24 routes to 13 destinations (2026). Air France anchors the long-haul schedule with regular Paris-CDG widebody service; Ethiopian, Royal Air Maroc, Turkish Airlines, ASKY, Kenya Airways, and RwandAir provide intra-African and European connectivity; flag carrier Equatorial Congo Airlines (ECAir) historically operated and the market now relies on Trans Air Congo and Canadian Airways Congo for domestic links to Pointe-Noire and Ollombo. Annual throughput of roughly 650,000 passengers ranks BZV among central Africa's mid-tier gateways. A new terminal opened in 2011, built as part of a broader Chinese-backed infrastructure programme, with a nameplate capacity of 1.5M passengers. The airport is also used as the operating base for presidential-fleet movements, UN logistics flights into the wider Central Africa region, and — during flood-triggered closures of the Brazzaville/Kinshasa Congo River ferry — as an informal substitute corridor for people and high-value freight between the two capitals. BZV's operational significance derives as much from that cross-river pairing with Kinshasa as from its own passenger numbers.
