Osh International Airport (OSS) serves the second-largest city in Kyrgyzstan and is the principal aviation gateway to the Fergana Valley, the densely populated, multi-ethnic heart of Central Asia. Sited at 2,927 ft (892 m) in the southern Kyrgyz lowlands where the valley meets the foothills of the Pamir-Alay, it is Kyrgyzstan's second-busiest airport after Manas (FRU) and a critical link for the country's southern provinces. The airport operates a long asphalt runway capable of handling narrow-body jet operations and, with seasonal restrictions, some widebody traffic. Before recent fleet changes Aeroflot, S7, Air Manas, Avia Traffic, Pegasus and flydubai operated routes linking Osh to Moscow, St Petersburg, Istanbul, Dubai, Almaty and a wide set of Russian Federation cities carrying the region's large migrant-worker population. Domestic services to Bishkek (FRU) form the backbone of the airport's schedule, running multiple times a day on Boeing 737 and Airbus A320-family equipment. On Central Asian airport tables OSS is classified as a large airport by runway capability and network breadth, distinguished by its role as the main air corridor between southern Kyrgyzstan and Russia and Turkey. The city of Osh itself – over 3,000 years old, home to the UNESCO-listed Sulaiman-Too sacred mountain and one of Central Asia's largest bazaars – gives the airport a combined tourism, religious and labour-migration traffic base. Its position near the Uzbek and Tajik borders also makes it strategically important for regional crisis response and for Kyrgyz economic integration with the Fergana Valley.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Osh

Public transportation

Osh's urban marshrutka network and city buses run along the main road past the airport, connecting the terminal with the central bazaar, the train station and outlying districts. Fares are paid in Kyrgyz som, and services are frequent during daytime hours though can become crowded at peak commuter times.

Taxis & rideshare

Licensed taxis wait at arrivals, with ride-hailing via Yandex Go widely used in Osh providing fixed-price fares in som. Shared taxis toward Jalal-Abad and the Uzbek border crossings at Dostuk depart from nearby stands, and many drivers are accustomed to cross-border trips requiring standard Kyrgyz customs procedures.

Rental cars

Self-drive rental is relatively limited in Osh, offered by a small group of Kyrgyz operators with sedans and 4x4s; many visitors instead hire a car with driver, which is the dominant model for travel on the spectacular but rough Pamir Highway toward Sary-Tash and the Tajik border. An international permit is recommended, and winter driving on mountain routes should be undertaken only with 4x4 vehicles.
