Getting to the airport
Ground transport options from Antananarivo
Public transportation
The ADEMA Navette airport shuttle bus runs a direct, affordable service between the terminal and central Antananarivo (Analakely district). Public minibuses ('taxi-be') operate from the main road outside the airport for a cheaper local-style ride but are crowded and not suitable for significant luggage.
Taxis & rideshare
Official cream-coloured airport taxis queue 24/7 outside arrivals. Fares to central Antananarivo (roughly 15 km / 9 mi, 45–90 minutes depending on heavy urban traffic) are negotiated before boarding — typical rides run MGA 40,000–60,000. Using official taxis is strongly recommended for safety.
Rental cars
Hertz, Avis, Europcar, and local agencies maintain counters in arrivals. Given the city's challenging traffic and driving norms, most visitors hire a car with local driver — a service offered as standard by virtually every rental agency. An International Driving Permit is strongly recommended.
