Manohar International Airport, known as Mopa Airport, is the second commercial airport serving the Indian state of Goa and one of the newest greenfield international airports in India, opened in January 2023. Operated by GMR Goa International Airport Limited under a public-private-partnership concession, GOX was built to supplement rather than replace the existing Dabolim Airport (GOI), which is constrained by its military-base-sharing arrangement with INS Hansa naval air station. The two-airport model is unusual in Indian civil aviation and reflects Goa's role as the most internationally-oriented tourism destination in India and the chronic slot constraints that limited growth at Dabolim. GOX handles roughly 4.5 million passengers annually in its initial operating phase, with capacity designed to scale to 33 million by 2045. The airport is named for Manohar Parrikar, four-time Chief Minister of Goa. It is served by IndiGo, Air India, Vistara (now integrated into Air India), Akasa, SpiceJet, and a growing list of international carriers, with service to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Pune on domestic trunks. International service to date has emphasized Gulf carriers — Emirates, Fly Dubai, Etihad, Qatar — plus regional service to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. A single runway, 10/28, measures 11,975 ft (3,650 m) and accommodates widebody operations including 787, 777, and A330. The modern terminal is designed around tropical Goan architectural motifs and achieved LEED Platinum certification under Indian green-building standards. GOX sits in northern Goa near the village of Mopa in Pernem taluka, 35 km (22 mi) from Panaji and 20 km (12 mi) from the northern beach resorts of Morjim, Ashvem, and Mandrem, significantly closer to these northern resorts than Dabolim is.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Mopa

Public transportation

Kadamba Transport Corporation (state-owned) operates bus service between GOX and Panaji, Mapusa, and the northern beach areas. Taxi-wise but not exclusive to buses, the airport has shuttles to Pernem and Mapusa for INR 80–150. The Konkan Railway line's nearest station is Pernem, roughly 12 km (7.5 mi) from the airport; transfer is by bus or taxi. No direct metro or suburban rail serves GOX.

Taxis & rideshare

Prepaid taxi counters inside Arrivals issue fixed-fare coupons. Typical fares: INR 800–1,200 to Mapusa and the northern beach belt of Anjuna, Vagator, Arambol, Mandrem, and Morjim (30–60 min); INR 1,500–2,000 to Panaji and Miramar (75 min); INR 2,000–2,800 to Calangute and Candolim (90 min); INR 2,500–3,500 to South Goa beaches like Colva and Palolem (2–3 hr). Ola and Uber have limited presence at GOX compared to Indian metros, and local Goan taxi unions have historically restricted app-based ride-hailing.

Rental cars

Self-drive rental at GOX is provided by Zoomcar, Myles, Revv, and a handful of Goan operators. Two-wheeler (scooter) rental, the dominant Goan mobility option for visitors, is available from counters outside Arrivals and from independent operators near the airport. Goa drives on the left. From the airport, NH66 runs south through Pernem and across the Mandovi to Panaji, and north to the Maharashtra border and Sindhudurg.
