Tallinn Airport, officially Tallinn Lennart Meri Airport, is the principal airport of Estonia and the largest airport in the Baltic states by passenger volume after Riga (RIX) and Vilnius (VNO), handling roughly 3 million passengers annually. TLL is named for Lennart Meri, the post-independence President of Estonia and a cultural figure central to Estonia's re-emergence from Soviet rule. The airport is widely recognized as one of the most user-friendly airports in Europe — its relatively small size, compact single-terminal layout, and deliberately Estonian design sensibility (wood-paneled gate lounges, a library, local coffee shops) give it a distinctive character, and it has won the ACI 'Best Airport in Europe' award in the 1–5 million passenger category multiple times. TLL is a base for airBaltic, the Latvian flag carrier, which operates a significant A220-300 fleet from Tallinn with service to European and Nordic cities. Ryanair, Wizz Air, Finnair, LOT, Turkish, Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, KLM, and SAS serve TLL, with Helsinki, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Riga, Warsaw, and Istanbul the densest international corridors. No scheduled long-haul service operates from TLL; intercontinental traffic connects via Helsinki, Frankfurt, or Istanbul. A single runway, 08/26, measures 10,072 ft (3,070 m). The modern terminal has 12 gates with six jet bridges. TLL is unusually close to central Tallinn for a major capital airport — just 4 km (2.5 mi) southeast, with central Tallinn visible from the departures lounge on clear days — and is connected to the city by a tram line, trolley bus, and urban bus services. The airport sits at an elevation of 131 ft (40 m) on the shore of Lake Ülemiste. TLL is wholly owned and operated by state company AS Tallinna Lennujaam.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Tallinn

Public transportation

Tallinn tram line 4 operates directly to the airport from Kadriorg and Hobujaama (central Tallinn) every 7–15 minutes for EUR 2 on a paper ticket or EUR 1.50 with a rechargeable 'Ühiskaart' smart card. The trip to central Tallinn takes 20 minutes. Tallinn residents registered in the city ride public transit for free. Bus routes 2 and 15 also serve the airport. Tallinn Balti jaam (rail station) is reached by tram 4 via Hobujaama.

Taxis & rideshare

Licensed Estonian taxis queue at the rank outside Arrivals. Airport taxi fares to central Tallinn run EUR 8–15 for a 10-minute trip; many Estonian drivers use Bolt, the Tallinn-headquartered ride-hailing app, which often undercuts metered airport fares. Licensed fares are displayed on the roof of the taxi; negotiated and unmarked taxis should be avoided. All taxis accept credit cards.

Rental cars

Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Sixt, Budget, and Enterprise maintain counters at TLL. CityBee, Estonia's dominant car-sharing service, has vehicles available from dedicated spots outside the terminal. From the airport, Tartu maantee (highway 2) runs directly into central Tallinn, and the E20 Tallinn ring road provides access to the Narva, Pärnu, and Tartu directions. Estonia drives on the right; driver's licenses from most countries are honored.
