Ufa International Airport (UFA) is the principal gateway to the Republic of Bashkortostan and one of the busiest airports in the Volga-Ural region of Russia, handling more than 4 million passengers a year. Serving the city of Ufa — a Bashkir cultural capital of 1.1 million — and a federal subject of more than 4 million inhabitants, UFA is a hub for Ural Airlines and an operating base for Azimuth, Red Wings and S7. Its role as a key aviation link between European Russia, Siberia and the Central Asian republics keeps traffic resilient through economic cycles. UFA sits about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of central Ufa, at an elevation of 449 ft (137 m). The field is built around a single concrete runway, 14R/32L, measuring 12,339 ft (3,761 m) — one of the longer runways in European Russia — capable of handling the Boeing 777 and Ilyushin Il-96. A parallel grass strip is used for general aviation. Terminal 1 handles domestic traffic and Terminal 2 handles international flights, with combined design capacity around 5 million passengers per year after a 2018 renovation tied to Ufa's SCO and BRICS summits. Twenty-six airlines link UFA to 54 nonstop destinations, including Russian trunk routes to Moscow (all three major airports), St Petersburg, Sochi, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar and Kazan, seasonal Black Sea and Caucasus leisure flying, and international service to Istanbul, Antalya, Dubai, Tashkent, Bishkek, Baku and Yerevan. UFA's location on the doorstep of the Ural Mountains, its strong Bashkir tourism draw and its diplomatic hosting legacy give it a strategic weight that its raw passenger volume alone understates (2025).

Ground transport options from Ufa

Public transportation

City buses from a marked stop directly outside the terminals are the most affordable way into Ufa. Route 101 runs to Ufa's main bus terminal in the Yuzhny district, while routes 110 and 110C serve different central neighborhoods and the main rail station; fares are typically 40 to 60 RUB paid by contactless bank card or to the driver. Journey times range from 60 to 90 minutes depending on traffic. A suburban commuter train (elektrichka) connects Ufa main station with Ufa-Aeroport station, a short walk from the terminals, but runs only a few times a day.

Taxis & rideshare

Official taxi concessionaires operate staffed counters inside arrivals, offering fixed-price rides to the city for roughly 800 to 1,200 RUB. The Yandex.Go app is by far the most-used option and collects from a signposted zone in the short-term car park, usually 20 to 40 percent cheaper. Maxim and inDrive are also widely used. Unsolicited offers from drivers inside the terminal should be declined.

Rental cars

Rentmotors and several regional Russian operators maintain counters in the Terminal 1 arrivals hall, with vehicles pre-positioned in the nearby lot. An International Driving Permit is usually required alongside the home-country licence, and credit-card deposits of 10,000 to 30,000 RUB are typical. Winter tyres are standard between November and April, and four-wheel drive is the sensible choice for onward travel into the Ural foothills.
