Milas–Bodrum Airport is the third-busiest airport on Turkey's Aegean coast after Antalya and İzmir, handling roughly 5 million passengers annually. BJV serves the Bodrum Peninsula — one of the most popular European summer destinations in Turkey, with the towns of Bodrum, Yalıkavak, Türkbükü, Gümüşlük, and Turgutreis drawing heavy British, German, Dutch, and Scandinavian leisure traffic — as well as the ancient city of Halikarnassos and the surrounding Muğla Province. The airport is named jointly for Milas, the administrative seat 36 km (22 mi) north, and Bodrum 36 km (22 mi) south. BJV's seasonal profile is among the most extreme of any Turkish airport: summer monthly traffic in July and August can be 10 times January traffic. BJV is served by Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, AnadoluJet, SunExpress, Corendon, and a long list of European charter and scheduled carriers: TUI fly, Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, British Airways, Condor, Eurowings, KLM, Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, Neos, and Enter Air. Nonstop service extends to most of Western Europe during the summer peak; winter operations are far thinner, with Istanbul and Ankara service via Turkish and Pegasus providing the main year-round connectivity. A single runway, 11/29, measures 9,842 ft (3,000 m) and accommodates 737, A320, and 757 operations plus occasional widebody. Two terminals — a domestic terminal and the main international terminal opened in 2012 under a 20-year build-operate-transfer concession — sit on opposite sides of the apron. BJV is operated by the TAV subsidiary BHI. The airport sits in a rural olive-grove valley at an elevation of 21 ft (6 m) — essentially sea level — with the high Mumcular hills visible to the north.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Bodrum

Public transportation

Havaş airport shuttle buses run between BJV and central Bodrum otogar (bus station) timed to major flight arrivals for TRY 180–250, a 45-minute trip via the D330 highway. A separate Havaş service operates to Milas otogar. Onward Kamil Koç and Pamukkale intercity coaches serve İzmir, Antalya, and Istanbul from Bodrum and Milas stations. No rail service directly to the airport.

Taxis & rideshare

Licensed Turkish taxis queue outside both terminal buildings. Metered fares to Bodrum town center run TRY 900–1,200 for a 40–50 minute trip, to Yalıkavak TRY 1,200–1,600 for a 50–60 minute trip, to Gümüşlük TRY 1,300–1,800 (60 min), and to Turgutreis TRY 1,100–1,500 (50 min). BiTaksi and Uber (reintroduced in Turkey with licensed taxi integration) operate at BJV; settling fare expectations before departure is standard.

Rental cars

Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, Enterprise, National, and a substantial roster of Turkish local operators (Economy, Garenta, Yesaş, Yürük) maintain counters in both terminals. Peak-season demand is exceptional and advance booking is essential. From the airport, the D330 runs south to Bodrum and the peninsula resorts, and north to Milas and onward to İzmir via the O-31 motorway. Turkey drives on the right.
