Getting to the airport
Ground transport options from Guadalajara
Public transportation
Line 3 of the Guadalajara SITEUR light-rail system terminates at the Central de Autobuses / Belenes station; connections to the airport require a transfer to municipal bus or taxi. Direct coach service is operated by several intercity lines — ETN, Primera Plus, ATM, and La Línea — connecting GDL to central Guadalajara, Zapopan, the Central Nueva bus terminal, Puerto Vallarta, Tepic, Aguascalientes, and León, with ticketing at counters in the arrivals hall. Local public bus routes pass the airport perimeter on Carretera Guadalajara–Chapala but are not recommended with luggage.
Taxis & rideshare
Official prepaid airport taxis (Taxi Autorizado) sell fixed-rate zoned tickets at counters in the arrivals hall before the terminal exit. Typical fares: MXN 300–400 to central Guadalajara and the Expo Guadalajara convention district, MXN 350–450 to Zapopan and Providencia, MXN 400–550 to Tlaquepaque and Tonalá, MXN 700–900 to Chapala and Ajijic on the lake. Uber and DiDi operate at designated pickup points in the short-term parking structure and are typically 25–40% cheaper than the official counter rate. Trips take 25–45 minutes depending on traffic on the Carretera a Chapala.
Rental cars
All major global rental brands (Hertz, Avis, Budget, Sixt, National, Europcar, Alamo, Thrifty, Dollar, Enterprise) plus local operators (Sixt, América, Mex Rent a Car, Green Motion) have desks in the arrivals area. Mexican third-party liability insurance is mandatory and must be purchased separately from any home-country coverage; this often significantly increases the effective daily rate relative to the quoted base. A credit card and driver's license are required; a passport is typically requested. Advance booking is strongly recommended during December–January and during the Guadalajara Book Fair (FIL), the largest Spanish-language book fair in the world.
