Incheon International is South Korea's primary international gateway and one of the most decorated airports globally — ASQ rankings by ACI have placed ICN at or near the top for more than a decade, a run unmatched by any peer. It serves 109 airlines on 499 routes reaching 175 nonstop destinations and handles roughly 80% of South Korea's international passengers and an outsized share of its international air cargo, which ranks among the top five globally by tonnage. The airport sits on reclaimed land between Yeongjong and Yongyu islands in the Yellow Sea, 48 km (30 mi) west of central Seoul. Korean Air operates its global hub here, with Asiana Airlines running the second-largest base and the two now in the process of merger integration. ICN has been purpose-built from the start as a sixth-freedom connecting hub, capitalizing on South Korea's geographic position between North America, China, Southeast Asia, and the rest of Northeast Asia — Seoul is among the shortest-great-circle connection points between several major trans-pacific origin and destination pairs. Four parallel runways, all 12,303 ft (3,750 m) or longer, allow triple-independent operations, with a fifth runway under construction as part of Phase 4 expansion. Two terminals — T1 (SkyTeam and most non-alliance) and T2 (Korean Air and partners) — are joined by a landside transportation center and by an airside shuttle-train system serving the Terminal 1 concourse building (Satellite). The 2018 opening of T2 delivered one of the largest passenger terminals built in the last decade. ICN is the flagship for integrated landside commerce: golf course, casino, ice skating, museum, and a six-story hotel complex are all embedded in or adjacent to the terminal envelope.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Seoul

Public transportation

AREX (Airport Railroad Express) runs two services from both terminals: the Express train non-stop to Seoul Station in 43 minutes for KRW 11,000 every 25 minutes, and the All-Stop commuter train stopping at 11 stations including Digital Media City, Hongik University, and Seoul Station for KRW 4,750 every 10–15 minutes. The AREX line connects to Seoul Metro lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 9 at various stops.

Taxis & rideshare

Licensed taxis queue at designated stands on the ground (Arrivals) level of both terminals. Regular taxis to central Seoul run KRW 55,000–75,000 (around USD 40–55) for 60–90 minutes depending on traffic on the Incheon Bridge and the Incheon Airport Expressway. Deluxe (black) taxis charge roughly 50% more with higher service standards. International taxi dispatch for non-Korean-speaking passengers is available at stands inside each terminal.

Rental cars

The Consolidated Car Rental Facility sits adjacent to Terminal 1 and at the ground transportation center of Terminal 2, housing Avis, Hertz, SK Rent-A-Car, Lotte Rent-A-Car, AJ Rent-a-Car, and Kumho. International visitors require an International Driving Permit. Vehicles exit directly onto the Incheon Airport Expressway across the Incheon Bridge — at 21.4 km (13.3 mi) the fifth-longest cable-stayed bridge in the world — reaching central Seoul in 60–75 minutes off-peak.
