Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport is the principal airport of Mérida, capital of the Mexican state of Yucatán, and the fourteenth-busiest airport in Mexico, handling roughly 3.2 million passengers annually. MID serves a metropolitan area of 1.4 million and functions as the main aviation gateway to the Yucatán Peninsula's interior — including the archaeological sites of Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, and Dzibilchaltún, the colonial cities of Izamal and Valladolid, and the Gulf of Mexico coastal towns of Progreso and Celestún — providing an alternative entry point to the peninsula for travelers who wish to avoid the beach resort concentration of Cancún (CUN) 320 km (199 mi) east. MID is served by Aeroméxico, Volaris, VivaAerobus, Aerus, and (increasingly) Mexicana de Aviación following its 2023 relaunch, with domestic service to Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Toluca, Tijuana, Villahermosa, and other Mexican cities. International service, though limited compared to CUN, has expanded in the 2020s: United operates Houston, American operates Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami, Aeroméxico operates Houston, Aeromar (historically) operated McAllen, and Copa serves Panama City with Star Alliance onward connections. Cuban service to Havana has operated at various times. A single runway, 10/28, measures 7,874 ft (2,400 m) and accommodates 737, A320, and similar narrowbody equipment plus limited widebody. The terminal was substantially expanded in 2022 as part of a program to accommodate growth tied to the Tren Maya (Maya Train) tourism project and the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO) near Tulum, which together are reshaping Yucatán regional tourism flow. MID sits 7 km (4.4 mi) south-southwest of Mérida's historic center — unusually close for an airport of its volume — at an elevation of 39 ft (12 m) in the flat limestone plain of the northern Yucatán.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Mérida

Public transportation

City bus route 79 'Aviación' runs between the airport and central Mérida via Avenida Itzáes and Calle 67 every 15–30 minutes during the day for MXN 12, a 25–35 minute trip. ADO long-distance coaches do not serve MID directly; the ADO terminal (TAME) in central Mérida is reached by connecting local transit. No rail service currently operates between the airport and the city, though the Tren Maya project includes a Mérida-area station.

Taxis & rideshare

Licensed airport taxis (Yellow and Orange concessionaires) queue outside Arrivals with fixed fares by zone: MXN 250–300 to Centro Histórico (15 min), MXN 350–450 to Norte Mérida and the Gran Plaza area (25 min), MXN 1,200–1,600 to Progreso (45 min), and MXN 2,500–3,200 to Chichén Itzá (2 hr). Uber and DiDi ride-hailing both operate at MID from designated pickup zones and typically undercut concession taxis. Mexico drives on the right.

Rental cars

Avis, Hertz, Budget, National, Alamo, Europcar, Dollar, and Mexican operators Mex Rent a Car and Fox Rent A Car maintain counters in the arrivals hall. Mexican auto insurance is included by US major brands at MID rentals. From the airport, Avenida Aviación connects to the Mérida Periférico (ring road), from which routes fan out to Progreso (33 km / 21 mi north via highway 261), Cancún (290 km / 180 mi east via Mex 180D), Campeche (175 km / 109 mi south), and the southern archaeological zones.
