Mohammed V International is Morocco's principal airport and the busiest in the Maghreb, handling more than 12M passengers in 2024 — a record total that cements Casablanca's role as the dominant air gateway to northwestern Africa. Located 30 km (19 mi) southeast of Casablanca in the commune of Nouaceur at 656 ft (200 m) elevation, CMN serves both the business capital of Morocco and the wider kingdom, a country increasingly positioned as a manufacturing and logistics hinge between Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Americas. CMN is the global hub of Royal Air Maroc, a oneworld member that concentrates its long-haul fleet on the field and operates nonstop services across four continents, including North American flights to New York-JFK, Washington-Dulles, Boston, Montreal, and Toronto, plus an extensive West and Central African network — Dakar, Abidjan, Lagos, Douala, Brazzaville, Kinshasa — that makes Casablanca the preferred stopover for European traffic into francophone Africa. In total 37 airlines operate 180 scheduled routes to 115 destinations. Air France, Iberia, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, and Qatar Airways provide substantial European and Gulf service, and low-cost operators Ryanair, Transavia, and EasyJet connect CMN to a growing European leisure network. Two parallel asphalt runways, both 12,205 ft (3,720 m) (17L/35R and 17R/35L), support the full widebody fleet including 787s, 777s, and A330s at Royal Air Maroc's base. Operations split between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, with a committed multi-billion-dirham expansion project for a new Terminal 3 and additional airside capacity tied to Morocco's co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, when CMN is projected to handle around 35M passengers annually.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Casablanca

Public transportation

A rail station operated by ONCF, the national railway, sits on level -1 of Terminal 1 with hourly trains to Casa-Voyageurs and Casa-Port stations in central Casablanca; journey time is about 45 minutes, and the network connects onward to Rabat, Tangier via the Al Boraq high-speed line, and Marrakech. CTM intercity buses also depart from outside the terminal for a cheaper, slower alternative into the city.

Taxis & rideshare

Official Grand Taxis — large white sedans — queue 24/7 at the designated rank outside Terminal 1 arrivals. They operate on published fixed rates to Casablanca city center and other major destinations; confirming the fare before boarding is standard practice. The smaller red Petit Taxis are not authorized to pick up at the airport for trips into the city.

Rental cars

Terminal 1's arrivals hall hosts desks for all major international brands (Avis, Hertz, Sixt, Budget, Europcar) alongside local agencies, reflecting Casablanca's role as a common start point for long-distance road trips through Morocco. Online advance booking is strongly recommended given the wide variation in published rates between peak and off-season.
