Jaipur International Airport (JAI) is the primary aviation gateway to Rajasthan and the anchor airport for India's Golden Triangle tourism circuit linking Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Located in the Sanganer district 13 km (8 mi) south of central Jaipur at 1,263 ft (385 m) elevation on the Aravalli foothills, JAI handles the heaviest tourism-driven traffic of any Indian airport outside the four metros. It operates a primary 9,177-ft (2,797-m) paved runway 08/26 capable of widebody operations, plus a secondary 5,223-ft (1,592-m) asphalt strip 15/33 for light aircraft and general aviation. JAI serves 48 routes to 32 destinations on 12 airlines (2026), with home-market operators IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, Akasa Air and SpiceJet connecting Jaipur to every Indian metro plus Srinagar, Guwahati and Lucknow. International service links Jaipur to Dubai (Emirates, IndiGo), Abu Dhabi (Etihad), Sharjah (Air Arabia), Muscat (Oman Air), Kuala Lumpur (AirAsia), Bangkok (Thai AirAsia) and Singapore (Scoot), with scheduled hajj-period charters to Jeddah. The airport's growth has been driven by Jaipur's Pink City UNESCO World Heritage listing in 2019, which pushed tourist arrivals to record highs. Operated by Adani Airports since 2020 under a 50-year concession - one of six Indian airports privatised in that round - JAI has been ACI-recognised for service quality. A 2009-built international Terminal 2 complements the older T1; an integrated future terminal is planned to lift annual capacity toward 15 million to meet projected growth from the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and Jaipur Metro expansion. Pre-pandemic traffic stood at roughly 5.5 million passengers per year. Jaipur is also significant in Indian aviation history as the home base of the Ministry of Civil Aviation's regional flying-training academy at Sanganer. The airport has been granted 'International' customs status and, since 2015, operates as a designated e-visa arrival airport - a policy decision that sharply accelerated inbound tourism and helped push the city into the top-five Indian airports for international traffic share.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Jaipur

Public transportation

JCTSL runs air-conditioned low-floor bus route AC-2 from the airport forecourt to Jaipur Junction Railway Station and Sindhi Camp ISBT every 30-60 minutes for 50 INR. The Jaipur Metro does not serve the airport directly; the nearest station, Sanganer (Mansarovar Phase-II), is a short auto-rickshaw ride away.

Taxis & rideshare

Government pre-paid taxi counters inside arrivals sell fixed-rate fares - typically 400-600 INR to the Walled City and 800-1,200 INR to Amer. Uber and Ola operate from designated pickup zones with cashless fares often 20-30% lower. Auto-rickshaws queue outside and will negotiate, but first-time visitors prefer metered or app-based rides.

Rental cars

Zoomcar, Avis and local chauffeur-driven specialists including Rajasthan Tours and Mahansaria staff counters in the terminal. Chauffeur-driven rentals are the norm in India and especially practical for multi-city Golden Triangle circuits. Self-drive requires a home licence plus International Driving Permit; Indian traffic drives on the left and is notably assertive.
