Phnom Penh International Airport is the principal airport of Cambodia and the busiest in the country, handling roughly 3.5 million passengers annually in pre-pandemic normal years. PNH is the principal commercial, political, and diplomatic gateway to Cambodia and one of the three main commercial airports in the country alongside Siem Reap (REP, now replaced by the new SAI) and Sihanoukville (KOS). The airport sits in Pou Senchey district 10 km (6 mi) west of central Phnom Penh and is operated under a long-term concession by Cambodia Airports, a joint venture of French infrastructure group Vinci Airports and Cambodian partners. PNH is a focus city for Cambodia Angkor Air (the flag carrier), Sky Angkor Airlines, and Cambodia Airways, with limited regional reach restricted by the small scale of these carriers and their limited widebody fleet. Dominant international service comes from Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, AirAsia (Malaysia, Thailand, and Philippines), Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Cathay Pacific, EVA, China Airlines, Korean Air, Asiana, Jin Air, China Eastern, China Southern, Xiamen Airlines, Lucky Air, and Sichuan Airlines, with Asian regional service to Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Kunming forming the core network. Qatar Airways provides the most prominent long-haul link via Doha. A single runway, 05/23, measures 9,843 ft (3,000 m) and accommodates widebody operations including 787, A330, and occasional 777. The modern terminal, substantially expanded in stages since the Vinci concession in 2009, has 12 jet bridges. A replacement greenfield airport, Techo International Airport (TIA), is under construction 30 km (19 mi) south of Phnom Penh in Kandal Province; once opened, commercial operations will transfer from PNH to TIA.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Phnom Penh (Pou Senchey)

Public transportation

Phnom Penh City Bus route 3 runs between the airport and the central Night Market / Sisowath Quay riverfront for KHR 1,500 (USD 0.40), a 50–75 minute trip depending on traffic, with service every 30 minutes from 05:30 to 20:30. No rail service connects PNH to central Phnom Penh; Cambodia's limited passenger rail operations do not serve the airport.

Taxis & rideshare

Airport taxis and hotel shuttles queue outside Arrivals. Taxi fares to central Phnom Penh are typically fixed by the airport taxi concessionaire at USD 12–15 for a 30–45 minute trip, with tuk-tuks (auto-rickshaws) available at USD 8–10 for the same trip. PassApp, Grab, and Tada ride-hailing apps all operate in Phnom Penh and are usually cheaper; PassApp and Grab have strong market positions. US dollars and Cambodian riel are both accepted.

Rental cars

Self-drive car rental is uncommon in Cambodia; most visitors use taxis, ride-hail apps, tuk-tuks, or chauffeur-driven cars arranged through hotels and tour operators. A handful of local operators provide vehicle-with-driver services. Cambodia drives on the right. From PNH, National Road 4 connects directly to central Phnom Penh, and onward routes serve Sihanoukville (230 km / 143 mi southwest) and Siem Reap (320 km / 199 mi northwest).
