Techo International Airport (KTI) is Cambodia's newest and largest airport, inaugurated on 9 September 2025 to replace Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) as the capital's primary aviation gateway. Located in Kandal province 30 km (19 mi) south of central Phnom Penh near Boeng Khyang at 20 ft (6 m) elevation, it is the largest greenfield airport to open in Southeast Asia since Kuala Lumpur International in 1998. The project - formally the New Phnom Penh International Airport - is a joint venture between Cambodia Airport Investment Co. (state enterprise) and OCIC, with planned three-phase development culminating in two parallel 4,000-m runways. Data Coming Soon for runway dimensions in the publishable dataset, though the first phase opened with a single 4,000-m (13,123-ft) runway capable of handling the Airbus A380. KTI serves 48 routes to 26 destinations on 26 airlines (2026), a route network inherited from PNH and now being expanded. Home carrier Air Cambodia (formerly Cambodia Angkor Air) operates the strongest domestic and regional presence, with Cambodia Airways, Sky Angkor and Lanmei Airlines adding capacity. International service links Phnom Penh to Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo, Doha (Qatar Airways) and Hong Kong. Cargo operations anchor freighter service for apparel exports to North America and Europe, reinforcing Cambodia's role in ASEAN manufacturing supply chains. The airport was designed by UK-based Foster + Partners with an ultimate capacity of 50 million passengers per year, positioning KTI as a strategic challenger to Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi and Ho Chi Minh's Long Thanh on the Mekong sub-regional network. Phase one capacity opens at 13 million. The 'Techo' name honours former long-serving Prime Minister Hun Sen, whose full honorific was Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen. The preceding Phnom Penh International (PNH) is being converted to mixed-use urban redevelopment, freeing 800 hectares (1,977 acres) for OCIC and other Cambodian investors and permanently reshaping the capital's urban geography.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Phnom Penh (Boeng Khyang)

Public transportation

A dedicated high-speed rail or light-rail link to central Phnom Penh has been planned from project inception; as of early 2026 this connection remains under construction. In the interim, scheduled city bus service runs from the terminal to the Night Market and Central Market areas with fares of 2,000-4,000 KHR (0.50-1 USD). Hotel shuttle services are widely advertised.

Taxis & rideshare

Official airport taxis queue at a fixed-rate counter in arrivals; a central Phnom Penh run costs 18-25 USD and takes 45-60 minutes depending on National Road 2 traffic. App-based Grab and PassApp operate from a designated pickup zone and tend to be 20-40% cheaper. Fares are payable in KHR, USD or by card; tipping is not expected.

Rental cars

Sixt, Avis and local agencies operate counters in the arrivals hall, offering both self-drive and chauffeur-driven cars. Self-drive is uncommon among foreign visitors owing to unpredictable traffic patterns and the requirement for a Cambodian driving permit; chauffeur-driven sedans and SUVs are the default choice for most business travel.
