Changchun Longjia International is the principal airport of Jilin Province and one of the three main air gateways to northeast China, alongside Shenyang Taoxian and Harbin Taiping. Located about 31 km (19 mi) northeast of Changchun at 706 ft (215 m) elevation, CGQ serves a city of 9M people and the broader industrial belt of Jilin, long associated with China's automotive industry as the home of FAW Group and the historical Changchun Film Studio. Passenger throughput is in the mid-teens of millions annually in normal years, placing CGQ among China's top 30 airports by traffic. Air China and China Southern run substantial operations from Changchun, while Jilin's own home carrier, Changan Airlines, bases part of its fleet at the field. The route network runs to 184 scheduled services across 33 airlines reaching 68 destinations, concentrated on domestic trunks to Beijing, Shanghai Pudong/Hongqiao, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and the Chengdu/Chongqing pair, with regional international service to Seoul Incheon, Tokyo Narita, Bangkok, and seasonal charters to Russian Far East cities such as Vladivostok. The terminal complex (T1 and T2) is fed by a single 10,500 ft (3,200 m) concrete runway (06/24) whose alignment allows CAT II approaches through the heavy winter snowfall that defines Changchun's climate. A distinctive infrastructure feature is the on-site Longjia high-speed railway station beneath the terminal, served by the Changchun–Jilin intercity line, which reaches Changchun Railway Station in 15 minutes and Jilin City in about 30 — one of China's most integrated air-rail interchanges and a model for the ground-access designs of later airports in the region.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Changchun

Public transportation

Longjia Station, directly beneath the terminal, is served by the Changchun–Jilin intercity high-speed railway; trains reach Changchun Railway Station in about 15 minutes and Jilin City in roughly 30, making rail the fastest and most reliable transfer in any weather. Multiple airport shuttle bus lines supplement the rail link, connecting to Renmin Square and the main city railway stations at low fares with schedules aligned to flight arrivals.

Taxis & rideshare

Official metered taxis are available at the arrivals-hall rank. The trip to downtown Changchun takes 40–60 minutes depending on traffic and winter road conditions; fares typically run 100–130 CNY. Drivers rarely speak English, so the destination address in Chinese characters is essentially required.

Rental cars

Counters for major domestic rental operators including China Auto Rental (CAR Inc.) and eHi are located in the arrivals hall. As across mainland China, foreign visitors generally need a valid Chinese driver's license to rent; International Driving Permits are not recognized. Hiring a car with driver remains the standard alternative for business and tourist travelers arriving without a PRC license.
