Shenyang Taoxian International Airport

Shenyang Taoxian International is the largest airport in northeast China and the primary aviation gateway for Liaoning Province, handling roughly 19M passengers annually across 205 weekly routes to 80 destinations on 39 airlines. SHE is the flagship base of China Southern Airlines' Northeast Company, the leading carrier in the region, and serves as the main connecting airport for passengers traveling between northeast China, Beijing, Shanghai, and the broader national network. Shenyang itself is the largest city in the former Manchurian heartland with a metropolitan population of roughly 9M. The airport operates a single 10,499 ft (3,200 m) runway with a second runway under construction, and a single integrated Terminal 3 that opened in 2013 spanning 248,000 m² (2.67M sqft). Annual capacity is designed for 38M passengers across two terminal phases, with Terminal 4 planned to open by 2028 as part of a long-term masterplan to position SHE as the primary international gateway for the three northeastern provinces (Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang) — a region with more than 100M residents and deep historical trade links to Russia, North Korea, and Japan. SHE sits at 198 ft (60 m) elevation in Hunnan District, 20 km (12 mi) south of downtown Shenyang. International reach is concentrated on Northeast Asia: Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Vladivostok, and Pyongyang operate as regular markets, reflecting Shenyang's role as China's principal commercial and transport hub for trade with the Korean Peninsula, Japan, and the Russian Far East. Domestic reach covers all of mainland China's major cities, with SHE serving as a northern connecting point between Beijing/Daxing and secondary destinations across Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, and Jilin provinces.
