Nanchang Changbei International is the principal airport of Jiangxi Province and a designated regional hub in central China, ranked by BigAirports among the fastest-growing second-tier Chinese airports by movement count. Located 28 km north of central Nanchang at 143 ft (44 m) elevation in the Changbei area, KHN handles roughly 14M passengers annually across two terminals — Terminal 1 (opened 1999) and Terminal 2 (opened 2020), a 100,000-square-meter structure designed for 25M annual passenger capacity. A single 11,155 ft (3,400 m) concrete runway (03/21) currently serves the full schedule, with a second parallel runway and associated third terminal under construction as part of the Changbei Phase III expansion. The airport serves as a focus city for China Eastern and Jiangxi Airlines (a China Eastern subsidiary headquartered at KHN), alongside operations from all three state-owned majors — Air China, China Southern — plus Shenzhen Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Hainan and Juneyao. KHN's 156 scheduled routes to 73 destinations across 23 airlines are heavily weighted to the domestic trunk network — Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Xi'an, Xiamen and Hangzhou all operate multiple daily rotations — with an expanding international layer to Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul-Incheon, Tokyo, Osaka and Taipei. Its geographic position in the Yangtze River middle reaches gives KHN a natural role as a connecting node between the Pearl River Delta and central China, reinforced by integration with the Nanchang high-speed rail network via dedicated airport coach services to Nanchang West Railway Station. The Changbei area is also the site of a dedicated aviation industry cluster producing AVIC regional aircraft.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Nanchang

Public transportation

Multiple dedicated airport coach lines connect KHN to central Nanchang at fares of CNY 15–20 for a 60–90 minute ride: Line 1 to Nanchang Railway Station, Line 3 to Nanchang West Railway Station (high-speed rail), and additional lines to Bayi Square and the Honggutan New District. Tickets are sold at a counter outside Arrivals. There is currently no metro connection, though an airport extension of the Nanchang Metro is in the planning stage.

Taxis & rideshare

Official metered taxis queue at the stand outside Arrivals and charge approximately CNY 80–120 to downtown Nanchang (Bayi Square, Honggutan) for a 40–60 minute run, with a modest highway toll added. Confirm that the driver engages the meter (打表). Didi Chuxing is the preferred ride-hailing option for non-cash bookings.

Rental cars

eHi Car Services and Shenzhou Zuche maintain counters in the arrivals hall. Mainland China does not recognize the International Driving Permit or foreign licenses for self-drive rental — a Chinese driver's license is required. Most foreign visitors instead hire a car with driver through Didi Premier or a hotel-arranged service.
