Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG) serves the largest municipality on earth by administrative population — Chongqing's 32 million residents — and is the only four-runway airport in western China. Located 19 km (12 mi) north of the Yuzhong peninsula at 1,365 ft (416 m) elevation on the Sichuan Basin's inland plateau, the airport handled 45.1M passengers in 2024, cementing its position as a top-ten mainland Chinese airport and the CAAC-designated trunk hub for the upper Yangtze. It is the primary base for Chongqing Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, and West Air, and a significant secondary hub for China Eastern, China Southern, and Hainan Airlines. The four-runway layout (02L/20R, 02R/20L, 03L/21R, 03R/21L) was completed in August 2022 when the T3B expansion and the fourth runway opened simultaneously, making CKG the first airport in mainland China with two pairs of parallel independent runways. The combined Terminal 3A and 3B complex exceeds 950,000 sq m, and total declared design capacity stands at 80M passengers and 1.1M tonnes of cargo annually. A USD 14 billion phased expansion plan is adding a new satellite concourse and fifth runway through 2030. CKG's inland geographic positioning — 1,500 km from any sea coast — has given it a surprising cargo character: it is a principal hub for China Post Airlines and SF Airlines and handles substantial international electronics and automotive parts volumes for Chongqing's laptop and EV manufacturing cluster. The airport's international route network has expanded rapidly post-2023 to include direct services to Rome, Budapest, Helsinki, Istanbul, Doha, and Los Angeles.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Chongqing

Public transportation

Chongqing Rail Transit Line 3 terminates at the T2 and T3 stations, running every 5 minutes from 06:30 to 22:30 and reaching Guanyinqiao in 25 minutes for CNY 6. Line 10 also serves the airport, offering access to the eastern districts and the new high-speed rail station at Chongqing East. The CKG inter-city rail station, integrated into the T3 Ground Transportation Centre, hosts direct high-speed trains to Chengdu East, Wuhan, and Zhengzhou.

Taxis & rideshare

Metered taxis queue at the arrivals exits of both T2 and T3 with a flagfall of CNY 10 plus CNY 2.50 per kilometre. A fare to Jiefangbei in the city centre is CNY 80–110 with a 40-minute runtime via the Airport Expressway (S01). Didi Chuxing dominates ride-hailing with a dedicated e-hail bay on the P3 parking level of T3 and a T2 equivalent on the ground floor of the car park.

Rental cars

Self-drive rental requires a Chinese driving licence; eHi, CAR Inc, and Shouqi maintain counters in the T3 arrivals hall. Chauffeured rental (with driver) is standard for foreign visitors and booked via Didi's premium tier or hotel concierge. Vehicles are delivered to the P4 pick-up zone, and the S01 Airport Expressway toward the Yuzhong peninsula is reached within four minutes of exit.
