Getting to the airport
Ground transport options from Yantai
Public transportation
Penglaishi high-speed rail station is integrated with the airport and provides direct service on the Qingrong intercity railway to Qingdao, Weihai, Rongcheng, and connections westward via Jinan to the national HSR network. Journey times are roughly 60 min to Qingdao and 30 min to Weihai. Airport shuttle buses operate on more than a dozen routes to Yantai Railway Station, Yantai Bus Station, downtown Yantai, Penglai, Longkou, Zhaoyuan, Laiyang, and other Shandong destinations with fares typically CNY 20–60. Services run from early morning until the late-evening last arrivals.
Taxis & rideshare
Metered taxis are available 24/7 at the official rank outside arrivals. Typical fares: CNY 150–200 to central Yantai (60–80 min), CNY 80–110 to Penglai district (30–40 min), CNY 250–350 to Longkou, CNY 400+ to Weihai. Didi Chuxing — the dominant Chinese ride-hailing app — operates at YNT with competitive pricing and is the most convenient option for non-Chinese speakers if the app has been pre-installed with an English-compatible payment link. Destination addresses should be prepared in Chinese characters for drivers.
Rental cars
Rental-car counters in arrivals are operated by the major Chinese self-drive operators — China Auto Rental (Shenzhou Zuche / CAR Inc.), eHi Car Services, and 1hai. Foreign drivers face a significant obstacle: China does not recognize the International Driving Permit, and a temporary or full Chinese driver's license is required to legally operate a rental car. Most international visitors default to chauffeured services or Didi rather than self-drive. Availability and rates are best booked online in advance; vehicles are typically returned at the same terminal lot.
