Wenzhou Longwan International Airport serves the port city of Wenzhou in southeastern Zhejiang province — a coastal manufacturing and light-industrial center known for its distinctive entrepreneurial economy and one of China's largest overseas diaspora communities, particularly in Italy, France, and Spain. Located on the coast 13 mi (21 km) east of downtown Wenzhou at just 13 ft (4 m) elevation, WNZ handles 161 routes across 71 destinations through 33 airlines and operates at the scale of a significant secondary Chinese provincial airport with a passenger throughput around 13M annually. No single airline dominates WNZ at hub scale. China Eastern (whose Shanghai hubs are roughly 250 mi / 400 km north), China Southern, Air China, Hainan, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Juneyao, and Spring Airlines all operate significant daily service. International routes concentrate on Southeast and East Asia — Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka — with particularly dense Bangkok connectivity reflecting the Wenzhou diaspora's business and leisure ties. Charter service to Italy has historically operated intermittently to serve the very large Wenzhou-origin community in the Prato region of Tuscany. The single concrete runway (03/21) measures 10,499 ft (3,200 m), handling all narrowbody traffic and widebody operations up to 787 and A330. A second runway and a new T3 terminal expansion are under construction as part of Wenzhou's master plan to raise annual capacity toward 30M by 2030. The airport benefits from direct high-speed rail-adjacent metro integration, which is unusual among mid-sized Chinese provincial airports and makes WNZ one of the more accessible secondary gateways in Yangtze River Delta aviation. Its coastal site 100 nmi (185 km) south of Shanghai positions it as a relief option for Shanghai Pudong and Hangzhou during congestion.

Getting to the airport

Ground transport options from Wenzhou (Longwan)

Public transportation

Wenzhou Rail Transit Line S1 has Longwan International Airport Station (龙湾国际机场站) directly integrated with the terminal building, offering fast service to Wenzhou South Railway Station (high-speed rail hub) and onward to downtown destinations in 30–45 minutes for CNY 5–9. Trains run every 8–12 minutes from 06:30 to 22:30. Multiple airport shuttle bus lines depart from the arrivals-hall counter to downtown Wenzhou, Yueqing, Ruian, and other regional cities; fares range CNY 20–60. Standard urban city buses provide the lowest-cost but slowest option.

Taxis & rideshare

Metered taxis queue 24/7 at the official stand outside the arrivals hall. Typical trips run CNY 80–120 to downtown Wenzhou (30–45 min), CNY 150–200 to Yueqing (50 min), and CNY 200–280 to Ruian (70 min). A 50% surcharge applies 23:00–05:00. Didi Chuxing is widely used as an app-based alternative with designated pickup zones and similar pricing. Drivers rarely speak English; having the destination written in Chinese characters is strongly advised.

Rental cars

China Auto Rental (CAR Inc.), eHi Car Services, and Avis operate counters in the arrivals hall. Foreign visitors must hold a valid Chinese driver's license — an International Driving Permit alone is not recognized in mainland China. Chauffeur-driven vehicles through the same operators or via hotel desks remain the practical option for most international travelers, typically running CNY 700–1,000 for an 8-hour city day.
